Hello everybody,

I am wondering how you guys unpack your iMac ? I mean, it is a very heavy piece of kit and the last thing you want it is dropping it.

I have just seen a video of a guy unpacking the new 27 inch iMac, and he took the top 2 white blocks out and then bending and struggling to lift the iMac out.

I did the same with my old 24 inch iMac and it was painful for my back. I cannot do the same for the 27 inch !

Please share your experience. For health and safety sake ! And yes, I just finished a manual handling course.

There's only one way to unpack an iMac. Only one way to unpack any Mac, really. With lots of friends! And lots of wine! (Or beer. Or whisky.)

Unpacking a Mac should be celebrated. :D

put the mac on the floor.... open up the box, lift it out and put it on the table... its something most people cantwork out how to do but it works well for me.... infact... anything i buy i open and pull out of the packaging.... common sense?

Do you have a girlfriend? Thought not.

OP, you could always remove the iMac by cutting open the box. That way you would not have to lift the iMac. The only disadvantage would be that you would ruin the nice box.

Lay box on side, open both ends of box, stand upright, slip box off.

That actually seems to be the best solution so far. Cheers.

I wonder if one day Apple will address this issue. They do think about everything from design to packing but obviously not unpacking. And they should because Steve Jobs is not getting any younger

Turn the box over on your bed or couch and slide the thing out. Never done it but how could it not do the trick?

I think the answer is use your initiative.

Bit of a pointless question, surely you have some creativity? I hope you don't need to ask about how to do EVERYTHING :p

I think he was saying that you don't have a life, because you are making such a big deal out of opening a box. :p

But yah, careful, it would suck bad to break that thing, oh and congrats in advance!

Well, I do have good reasons : a iMac is expensive and I do not wish to drop it because of my bad back. I am young and it sucks to have a bad back :(

No worry, I do not ask for everything :) I just wanted to ask this question because I was wondering.

Just trying to make conversation while waiting for the iMac :D

lol gotta love this thread. Open the box, get two people, each take a side, and put it on a low end table.

Q. Whats the hardest part of asking this question?
A. Telling your mom you still wet the bed at night!

Unbelievable the amount of people not taking this topic seriously  The iMac is heavy, the iMac is expensive, and some people do have some bad backs.

As I said already, Apple took care of every details of this product, beside the one I am speaking about.
