How to update to 4.2 and keep my iphone unlocked?

Hi sorry for the stupid question if it i havent unlocked or jailbroken my iphone since a year i have an iphone 4 which is unlocked currently being used on a unofficial carrier but i want to upgrade to 4.2 can i? aslo is its unthethred and unlockable? thanks

Assuming you have 4.2.1 shsh blobs saved on cydias server you can create a custom 4.2.1 with pwnage tool.
Put your iphone in pwned DFU mode and restore to that JB firmware thru itunes.
Then open cydia and install ultrasnow to unlock again.

IIRC, there's only 4.2.1, but I could be mistaken.
You can check advanced mode, but pwnage preserves bb by default.

Yes, you're good on the shsh then.
You download the official 4.2.1 ipsw and you point pwnage to that.
Pwnage will cook up a custom firmware that doesnt touch/update your baseband.

Make sure when all is done your restore to the custom 4.2.1 ipsw you created with pwnage and you dont accidentally select the official 4.2.1 when you restore thru itunes.

Do you have the SHSH saved by tiny umbrella onto your computer and then have the server on TU running? Or did you edit your host files?

im just tried putting my phone on dfu mode then restore by pressing option and click an selecting the custom firmware ;D ;( but i can't

when the loading bar at top of itunes says verifying iphne restore with apple and when its done i get an error message saying "this devide isn't eligible for the requested build"

1) Create (Pwnagetool) or find (google) a custom 4.2.1 firmware file (one that keeps your baseband = unlock).
2) Download and run Tinyumbrella. Make sure your phone is detected. Click on "Save my SHSH...". Verify that 4.2.1 was saved. Then, select "TSS Server...".
3) Use Pwnagetool or Redsnow to put the phone into a special DFU mode.
4) Start itunes and restore with file in #1.

You run TU and click start TSS server. Then you put the IPhone in pwned dfu with pwnage. Not regular dfu or it won't work. Just follow the link I gave you. Don't skip any steps.

omg please help me i think me phone is stuck on recovery mode the screen is all black but itunes detects it as in dfu mode but i try to restore with the custom firmware and i get erro code 1600 and the iphone wont get out of the black screen please help me
