I have the Gold Master of 4.0 installed, and now iTunes tells me my phone is already using the latest software (4.0).

Should it be offering an update to the newly released final 4.0, or is it exactly the same as the GM?

It's the same build. You would be updating to the same thing.

Nothing to do. Continue using your phone as normal and save yourself the aggravation of hitting the iTunes servers at the same time as everybody else.

Same build as the GM, there is no change.

Wrong. The final has no Game Center as it's not live yet. So they have the same build number but are different. God knows what else might differ in each.

That's odd. So I'm making myself a deal without "updating". How/why do they have the same build number? Is it because I'm using a developer IPSW?

Click restore with Shift click on your keyboard for Windows Option click for Mac then select your downloaded FW file.

Is this confirmed for all versions or just the 3G?

Was the same for me - no Game Centre on 3gs whereas there was on GM.

I found the easiest way to "upgrade" was to just click the restore in itunes and it will download direct from apple - no need to bother with manually downloading a firmware file then :)
