......linked to your iPhone? Trying to update Watch 3 and have watch 0 also linked to iPhone. Update window on iPhone says to ensure watch is on charger. When put on charger the watch changes to the other watch and the update stops.

Manually switch the Watch in the Watch App to the one you want and turn the toggle off for auto switching. Turn back on after the update has done.

That didn't work. Schlupps suggestion does work but it smacks of Apple not having thought this scenario through. I can't find anything relating to this on their support web site.

I have Series 3 and 5 and that is exactly how I update them as well. Auto switch toggle off then select the one you wanna update. Sometimes you have to be patient tho bc it might take a minute for them to switch in the Watch app.

Did you try turning off the watch that you don’t need to update, while going through the process with the other watch?
As I previously said, yes that worked. But it's odd that most people aren't having this issue. Technology eh? (or maybe operator trouble?)

Initiate the update directly via the watch .... it will complete when you next put that watch on the charger.
If necessary, you can, at the same time, update the currently connected watch via the watch app on the phone.
That’s how I recently updated my S3/S4...Put the (updated) S3 on charger then replaced it with the S4 when going to bed and using S3 for sleep tracking. S4 update complete next morning.

It doesnt always work from the Watch directly eg when Wi-Fi is shared from paired iPhone and its connected to another Watch it could fail to get a connection. This also could be the root cause of OP problems or at least it might be something worth checking ie if everything is connected to the same Wi-Fi.

For example I have a MAC access list and one of my Watches isnt on it so my home router doesnt let it connect directly however it can do so via iPhone as it shares its connection when I wear the Watch or select it explicitly. So there could be a situation when the Watch is connected to a different Wi-Fi from iPhone, of course there is Bluetooth but I'm not sure how Apple managing all that connections zoo when it happens.
