Just like the title says:

I have 4.0 and want to upgrade to 4.0.1 but iTunes 9.2.1 currently will only let me upgrade to 4.0.2 even when trying to force the .ipsw file.

Why do you want to upgrade to 4.0.1? All it does is change how the signal bar is shown. Pretty sure there's something in Cydia you can install that would do the same thing.

But, if you want, you will need to have 4.0.1 SHSH hashes saved on your computer or through Cydia.

Do a little research into SHSH hashing. Plus it would be a huge importance if we knew what device your running..

I have an iPhone 4 with the SHSH hashes saved according to Cydia. I downloaded the 4.0.1 .ipsw from Apple for the iPhone 4. What's next?

Someone posted on a blog that with 4.0.1 the signal is allowed to drop to a lower threshold before the iPhone 4 decides to drop the call vs version 4.0. My coverage area is on the low end so I am trying everything I can to keep from dropping calls.

Download and run Tinyumbrella:
1) Make sure you Iphone is detected.
2) check "Advanced Options."
3) In new window, under "Device / Version," select 4.0.1 firmware.
4) Click on "Save my SHSH." Pray Cydia has them. If you don't get an error, it has been saved onto your computer.
5) Repeat to save other firmware hashes if you wish.
6) Now, click on "Display SHSHs." It should listed all hashes you have saved on your computer and the firmware version you can downgrade to.
7) Start "TSS server" and restore through iTunes with the downloaded firmware file (google) you can downgrade to in step #6.
8) If you phone get stuck during restore, trying "Kick out of recovery..."'in Tinyumbrella.

I followed all the steps and got this error after the restore progress bar was almost finished.

Kicked the device out of recovery and everything is up and running! Thanks!
