iPod touch How to upgrade to 3.0?

On the 17th you will be able to purchase it from the iTunes store. It will then download and install.
Lets say you had a copy of the firmware some how right ok so then you just restore with that firm through itunes i did it and did not have to be a developer or any thing and i left my airport on
if it's the GM release I would say just hit the update button and u will probably get the official release downloaded via iTunes
Some times major updates require a restore-like install. It depends on if they say it requires everything to be erased. I hope not, just out of convenience.

i don't think it will be that early. i remember with 2.0 i was going out of town that day and i left at around 9am or 10am EST and it still wasn't up. besides, it would probably be better to just wait because from what i heard, last year was a huge mess because every one tried to get it at the same time.
Will 3.0 Run Better?
I have a Touch 1G. The new functionality of 3.0 is relatively minor to the 1G. However, does anyone know if Apple has tweaked the underlying code or basic functionalities? I'll buy the upgrade on the assumption that new code is better than old code, but was wondering if anyone knew if the 1G will run better on 3.0 than on 2.2.1?

The 2.0 update went live for iPhone around noon, but I remember it taking quite a while for the iPod touch firmware to go up. I remember everyone on these forums freaking out.
Either way, I definitely would not suggest staying up for it to release.
i have it on my 1g iPod Touch and it seems a little laggy to me. but i read on these forums that if you don't restore from backup then it runs smoother so i'm going to do that when a jailbreak comes out. but all-in-all, i'd say it's about worth $5 for the 1g. i think i'd be a little pissed if i paid $10 for this. $10 for the 2g doesn't seem bad but not for the 1g.
