Hi,

I am grandfathered into the ATT unlimited plan and want to eventually upgrade to iPad 2/3

from iPad 3G. I heard ATT is allowing users with unlimited to upgrade to iPad 2.

How is this process handled and are there any problems? Do they just reprogram the SIM card?

I spent three hours activating the unlimited with ATT at the undisclosed 800 number after I ordered the unlimited on June 6, 2010 and received it on June 23, 2010. Not fun.

I'd also like to give the old iPad to my wife. How does she get service activated on the old iPad?

Thanks.

I'm also grandfathered in on the unlimited plan. Apple told me to just log in with your account on your ipad2 or switch the sim card. i just switched the sim card and had no problem keeping the unlimited plan. Plus i sold my old ipad with the new unused sim card in it. :)

You can also move the data plan to your new iPad simply by updating the device info on the AT&T iPad account website. Just log in using your existing account info, click Edit User & Payment Information and then click Update Device Information.

I'm sure swapping the SIM card also works but read on a few websites that AT&T advises against just swapping the SIM (though didn't give explanation why) so I went this route--worked perfectly.

The main thing is the IMEI and iccid numbers. They swapped my sim cards at the ATT store and it worked fine. Then later I must have done something. I updated my IMEI and iccid numbers on line and my 3G stopped working. I worked with ATT Cust service and they had me switch the sim cards back again. Then all was good. Not sure what happened but it must have been me. Now all is good.

not complicated

all i did was call att. i didnt even swap sim cards. just give them the new imei and iccid of your ipad 2. then they ask you to power off your ipad 2 and when you turn it back on ... your ipad unlimited data plan has been switched over.

I called Att to switch my account after reading you can' t just switch the sim from the iPad 1 to the new iPad 2. Well al did not go well, for some reason the new IPad won't connect to the tower. They said there are issues here in Houston with the towers. They put in a claim and they are supposed to call me back and fix the problem. We shall see. I'm supposed to get a free month service when and if they fix the problem. Sigh.
