i currently have windows xp, and i bought a windows 7 upgrade disc, so i was wondering how does that work? do I upgrade while booted in windows xp or what?
You can't do an in-place upgrade so you will end up performing a so called custom install, which is basically the same as using the upgrade disc to install on bare metal, with the only exception that you will be able to use your product key the first time.
when i click on the windows 7 upgrade disk in my drive, it says installation disk does not support your current windows os, or whatever. what do i do now?
I don't think it's possible to "upgrade" fro XP to 7. You basically end up with a machine that needs all of your apps and everything re-instaleld again.

I was able to go from XP Home to W7 Pro (32-bit) using the upgrade. When I then wanted to install W7 64-bit, my computer was giving me a similar message.
