I saw this post on the forum:

"I gave up on the webcams and bought a brand new but open-box Panasonic camcorder off eBay for $90. It works 1000 times better than any of the webcams I tried, including the more expensive ones. As a bonus, it's a camcorder and obviously not just tied to my computer. I think that, outside of iSight, this is absolutely the best option for Mac users. It's also incredibly easy to use and requires no drivers or software".

Can somebody tell me more about this option?
- which camcorders work, and do they have to be firewire?
- what software is used for this?
- does it work for Skype and live streaming?
- what about the microphone and sound?
- anything else?

Have you asked in the thread the post is from or is the poster long gone?

It was a guy called T-bone, and thread was from 2009 and a very long thread about something else, so no use reviving it. I've PM'd him. So basically, looking for answers!

I've got an old Canon camcorder that uses firewire; I can connect it and use it as a webcam using EvoCam. I suspect this is similar to what the poster was mentioning. FW is not as common anymore for cameras, so it might not be useful to you now. Most HD camcorders I've seen lately use HDMI out for HD, so it might require some other hardware to use them as web cams. And this is just for video; not sound.

How can i use panasonic camcorder as a webcam

I would like to know please if it is possible to use my brand new
panasonic model # HC X920 with my mac book pro with retina display.
i have mountain lion version 10.8.3

I have called the Panasonic office and they are telling me that i cannot use this camcorder as a webcam.
it is brand new and the top of the line consumer camcorder for panasonic.

However, this camcorder has wii fi capability and can be used for live streaming with U Stream.

I though maybe someone out there knows of 3rd party software and or 3rd party hardware that will work.

anyones help is greatly appreciated!!

THANK YOU!
PEACE!
