I bought a HP printer scanner copier (HP PSC 1402) and ofcourse it comes with a sh*tload of software from HP. Now, for printing I can just print anywhere I want so I dont need their software, but is it possible to scan without their software? If so, please tell me so I can dispose of all that nonsense software.

Use the application called Image Capture when the scanner is directly connected to the computer. Scanning doesn't work through a wireless print server. You should only need the drivers that came with the printer, no extra software. Or maybe nothing at all - try it first without installing anything from the printer's CD.

i can see the scanner in the window, but I cant connect to it (it is grayed out)
