In the Mac OSX Leopard Mail app.. when I try to use my Gmail account, I get very, very old emails dating 2005-2007..

This has been doing it with every attempt. What exactly could I be doing wrong? Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this?

I have this issue a few times when using pop3.

I find it much easier to use imap as I sync mail in my mac and iPhone and a message is always backed up n my Gmail account. To do this enable imp in your Gmail settings and then setup mail to sync to gmail using imap protocol.

Search Google?
The thought never occurred to me.

Why don't you kids that use Google Mail search Google?!!! Apple Mail 3.0 answer, Apple Mail 3.0 settings. I also assume you went to Goole's server page Getting started with IMAP for Gmail.

Then are the third party answers: How To Setup Gmail, IMAP, and Mail.app, Setting Up Gmail With Mac OS X Mail and the video tutorial.

Check all these links and follow them and get GMail working with Mail. Simple Google searches found all these links.

As others have said, try using IMAP instead of POP. The first link posted by satcomer has your answer.

Hint: searching for set up gmail in mac mail leopard in Google gives this result as the first link. Try harder next time? :)
