How to use half my function keys?

Hi, I was wondering if there is any possible way to use F1-F6 without holding the function key, and using F7-F12 only while holding the function key(so I can use the volume control easier since I will use that more often)

I don't think so, but I only run SL - perhaps in Lion or ML there is a way.

Try FunctionFlip. Not sure how well it works on Mountain Lion, if you've upgraded.
