Hey guys... I read that Handbrake can convert a file to watch on a DVD player and I cant seem to do this.. The output on Handbrake gives me 2 options .. MP4 and MKV ... Will the MKV output be able to play on a DVD player? Thanks!!

HandBrake is used to transcode (convert) video FROM a video DVD to a file your computer plays, it is not uses to make a video DVD.

You could try Burn or maybe even iDVD or Toast Titanium for that.

Yes, you can use HandBrake for that. Use one of the presets for iPad or Apple TV and it gets you an .m4v or .mp4 file.
