first gen... 2.0 version with jailbroken cydia and the such...

how do I use these commands from my iphone?

ping, tracert, etc?

I see in cydia that inetutils is the one that would 'do' that?
Is there a sort of command line?

You could load the local terminal emulator to running a local command line or you could enable SSH and ssh into your iPhone.

how would I load a local emulator, or local command line?

I would look through the packages in Cydia. What was the point of your jailbreak if you didn't do research ahead of time? Not trying to be mean but honestly if your asking these questions now after a jailbreak you didn't do enough research.

Jailbreak installs these more esoteric apps without your consent or knowledge and there are no app icons for them. Kinda hard to know what they do or how to use them if you don't even realize you installed them. I've been jailbreaking since the first gen phone and I was surprised/confused by the existence of these apps.

yup, there is a ******** of apps that are installed by default...that I will never, nor ever heard of...I would remove them, but I would hate for Cydia to break if I did...

back to my main question, how do I get a sort of emulator, or command line up?

go into Cydia and search for terminal, it should come up with the terminal emulator for iPhone.
