With AirPods Pro 2, Apple has improved the Charging Case by adding a U1 chip for Precision Finding with Find My. This article explains how to use Precision Finding to locate your AirPods Pro if you've misplaced or lost them.

Find My‌ uses Bluetooth signals from lost AirPods to relay their location back to you. Apart from Bluetooth, however, the second-generation AirPods Pro Charging Case is also equipped with a U1 Ultra Wideband chip, and on iPhones that also have U1 chips, there's a Precision Finding feature that enables you to more accurately determine the distance and direction of your AirPods when they're in range, when compared to Bluetooth alone.

If you want to find lost AirPods Pro 2 and you have an ‌iPhone 11‌ or later model, Precision Finding will direct you to the exact location of your AirPods using input from the camera, accelerometer, and gyroscope, with guidance provided through sound, haptics, and visual feedback. Here's how to use it.
  1. If your AirPods are connected, open Settings and tap the AirPods tab just below your Apple ID, scroll down, then tap Show in Find My. If you've misplaced your AirPods earbuds along with the case, launch the Find My app and select your AirPods in the "Devices" list.
  2. Tap Find. It should say "Nearby" underneath if the Precision Finding feature is available.

Now start moving around to locate your AirPods and follow the onscreen instructions. You should see an arrow pointing in the direction of the AirPods, an approximate distance telling you how far away they are, and a note if they're located on a different floor.
As you approach the AirPods, you'll feel haptic feedback from your phone and there will be audio cues to let you know that you're approaching an item. The AirPods graphic on the ‌iPhone‌ will also shift as you get nearer to it. Precision Finding exits when you've successfully located your AirPods and your ‌iPhone‌ is in very close proximity.

Note that Ultra Wideband isn't universally supported worldwide, therefore Precision Finding won't work in some countries. But bear in mind that the AirPods Pro 2 Charging Case comes with a built-in speaker, so you can also make it play a sound using Find My to more easily locate it.

My AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) don't show in FindMy, and that's even after resetting / unpairing them and updating the firmware to the newest version. I've tried restarting the iPhone, and also logging in on iCloud.com but there's nothing there either. Turning off the FindMy network and turning it back on doesn't work, so I'm at a loss. I'm running iOS 16.0.1 so I assume that can't be an issue either.

I think others on the forum are also having this issue though it's not happening to everyone. I just hope I don't lose them in the meantime.

Same for me, it works only I few minutes after resetting the AirPods Pro(2nd Gen.)

My AirPods Pro Gen 2 doesn't show up in the Find My app... even after upgrading to the latest firmware 5A377

Hoping it's just a software glitch that Apple will fix soon

Edit: my bad, not Apple's fault. I didn't turn on "Find my iPhone" in the first place lol. It worked very well after turning it on.

Weird. Mine worked perfectly fine without doing anything at all. I just remembered it had the feature, went into the Find My app and it was right there.

Urrrgh - I have the same issue. Got my AirPods Pro 2s today. Set them up in the normal way, and they sound great. Everything looks good apart from the fact that they don’t appear in Find My. Tried restarting the phone, unpairing and repairing the AirPods, but no luck.

I have my keys, wallet, and my car all visible in Find My (yup - I have an AirTag hidden in my car lol). But the AirPods are a no-show. Pah!

Hi all, I had the same issue, AirPods Pro 2 was not showing in Find My app no matter what I did, but I think found a fix. At least it worked for me.
  1. Remove AirPods Pro 2 from your device. Settings -> Bluetooth -> Forget this device.
  2. Disable and then enable Find My on your iPhone. Settings -> Apple ID -> Find My -> Find My iPhone.
  3. Reset your AirPods Pro 2 to factory settings. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 30 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
  4. Connect to your AirPods Pro 2 from Bluetooth settings.
  5. Your AirPods Pro 2 should now be visible in Find My app.

This is it!!!

Thank you that is the only thing that worked in the end! I've just come off a chat with Apple and they've got a technician ringing me tomorrow to do some further diagnosis. I'll be sure to tell them of your fix if you don't mind that is.

Great, glad to hear that it helped! Of course, please share it.

Mine eventually appeared after resetting my phone for the umpteenth time! Definitely a bit of a flaky implementation, here…

I tried this and initially it didn't work, though then hard reset my iPhone and low and behold their they were on find my. Definitely doesn't inspire too much confidence but hopefully once they're on there they stay on.

The precision finding for the case works if I go through the AirPods settings in the Settings app. If I open the Find My... app, the airpods themselves show up but I don't see the case as its own entry. When I go through settings, I can do the U1/AirTag-style finding of my case. is that expected behavior?

Does not show up as a searchable device in find my at all, no difference to gen 1 of my airpods pro.

what's the experience like for finding a single missing earbud? I wonder how "findable" it would be without the precision finding support, which only the case has.

Can anyone with the airpods pro 2 please share?

Thanks

Thank you that fixed it for me. I thought I was going crazy as I’d tried everything I could think of.

I tried many of these steps with AirPods Pro 2 and my 13 Pro Max, to try to get them to show up in "Find My" app.
Also, I've been using the AirPods Pro 2 since Saturday afternoon, and they have still not updated to 5A377 despite being plugged into power all night Saturday night in the closed case after being paired and used with my iPhone for a few hours.

Before seeing the 1st post quoted above, I did the 1st and 3rd steps only; but instead of pairing via BT settings in step 4 I had previously allowed the H2 chip to do the pairing through the pop-up dialog where it said, "Some features of this accessory require a newer version of iOS" and it offered to let me "set up with limited functionality".

I assumed that H2 chip dialog box wanted to search for an IOS update and do the update to 16.x so that I can take pics of my ears for personalized spacial audio, but it's more important for me to stay on iOS 15.7 until I know iOS 16 is more stable (16.1 or later is when I planned to do it). I understand many people are on 15.7 and have no trouble with "Find My" with AirPods Pro 2.

I had also previously tried the force restart iPhone (hard reset to me is to wipe my phone to factory, vs soft reset > with vol up, vol down, hold power button till I see apple logo come back up on reboot). But then after seeing this, I then only paired from within the BT settings on my phone, instead of using the H2 chip pairing pop up. Even with doing all the steps as above and rebooting phone, this didn't help.

NOT ONLY DO THEY NOT SHOW UP IN FIND MY APP, but "OPTIMIZED CHARGING" and "FIND MY NETWORK" are both missing in the BT settings when I TAP ON THE "i" Icon, next to the paired AirPods Pro 2 when connected with them in my ears. Those are there with my AirPods Pro Gen 1. And these are still on Firmware 5A374, despite being paired, put in the case, and on the charger for an hour with good internet.

I don't know where to go next. I tried removing them from my Apple ID, turning find my iPhone off reboot then on, resetting them, and pairing with my MacBook 14" on Mac OS 12.6 first, with BT on the phone turned off, and that doesn't help even if I turn BT back on in my iPhone and connect the AirPods Pro 2 to my iPhone, after pairing with my Apple ID on the MacBook Pro.

Glad to know I'm not the only one! Tried all these methods and Apple Support repeating the same thing of turning off/on Find My and deleting and then resetting and reconnecting airpods. Same thing with firmware stuck on 5A374 and me sticking with IOS 15.7 as I've heard of battery issues to the iphone on IOS 16. It stinks that AIrpods firmware can't be easy to upgrade like every other device. I have to assume the Airpods firmware is the first culprit because apple support said that might be needed first but who knows until it updates on its own. Literally is a waiting game unless my brand new airpods are malfunctioned and I got to use my Applecare so soon if I decide to visit the Apple Store.
