Apple didn't really talk about it, but in your iTunes folder (since itunes 9) there is a folder called "automatically add to iTunes". Any music file placed in this folder gets automatically added to iTunes. Unfortunately you can't specify what this folder is, or where it is. Your choices are to browse to the folder or create an alias to it somewhere accessible, like your dock or desktop, making it not very useful.
I like drop-boxes, I have one for Transmission, it's very useful. I don't like these solutions, so I made my own.
Unzip the attached file and put it in ~/Library/Services/ for just your account, or in /Library/Services for all users of the computer to use. When it's in there, whenever you right click a file, there will be an option, either at the bottom of the menu or under "services" that says "add to iTunes"
I've put a few extra steps in than are strictly necessary to hopefully make it more user friendly, as you can see from the screenshot the action will search through any folder you want, pick out only music files and move them to the add to itunes folder, where itunes will auto add them to the library. This means if you have downloaded a bunch of stuff to your downloads folder, say music, pictures, programs etc, instead of individually picking out the music you can select the whole folder, and the script will leave everything else alone. If there's no music at all in there, it will pop up a workflow error, but again, nothing will be touched.

Enjoy :)
