How to use the MacBook Pro's analog line-in?

Hi,

I've been trying to connect my Playstation 3's analog audio output to my MacBook Pro but it doesn't seem to work. Everytime after I connect it, there still won't be any sound coming out of the speakers.

How is the analog line in supposed to work?

System prefs > sound > select line in

Although I suspect the problem is with the PS3. It doesn't like outputting analogue.
