I've been through quite a learning curve setting up VPN. I now have it to where it will connect, both inside and outside my network. But, I feel really ignorant that I can't figure out how to access my files. I made the assumption that the server would show up in the Finder just like it does if I were on the network locally. Is this not the case? If it is, I wonder why I can't see it. If that is not how it works, how do I access the files? I have scoured the internet looking for how to actually USE a VPN, but everything seems to be focused on setting it up.

Thank you for any help.

Access files through VPN...

Figured it out. After connecting, I chose Connect To Server from the Go menu in the Finder. I entered the server ip address (not the external ip) and it connected right up. I found that piece of advice buried somewhere so I decided to post it here for anyone else that might need it.
