I download Webkit from http://nightly.webkit.org/ but I am not sure that I am using it right. I dropped it in applications and clicked it, but I know that it is supposed to be an engine for more than Safari. I can't find any intro or install docs anywhere (on Blog, Wiki, etc.).

Can anybody give me a simple primer in how to install this?

You've done it right. When you install the nightlies, you get an application called WebKit, but when you run it it will pretty much seem exactly like Safari (down to the name in the menu bar). The only difference IIRC is that the Dock icon has a gold rim instead of silver. For updates to WebKit that will affect other apps (Shiira, OmniWeb, etc), I believe you have to just wait for Apple to officially release them in the OS X point releases.
