HI, hope you all can help, I Have read so much online and with different thoughts, I am a bit confused.

I have access to someone else's iPhone that they are getting rid of. How can I be sure that the phone hs no Activation Lock? Is there any other electronic status I need to verify?

There's a section on Apple's support article that explains how to check for it.

You should also verfiy that it is not Carrier locked. You can find out if your iPhone is locked by going to
Settings > General > About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked.
