when I am in finder, there are times I would like to be able to view 2 different external hard drives or folders at the same time side by side on my screen, for instance when I want to copy an item from my documents in finder to an external hard drive or check that I have the documents on my external hard drive, is there a way to view the contents of both at the same time with out having to click back & forth in finder from the documents folder to my external hard drive?

I know windows allows one to open multiple windows in explore to say view my music & an external hard drive at the same time, so mac OS must have this, it seems basic, at least I have not figured it out yet.

You can open multiple finder windows.
Right click the finder icon and select new finder window.
Or press cmd+click on finder
Or with finder open press cmd+n
