how to watch video/games on TV ?

Experts,

i have iphone4 (JB) and ipad 2 ( waiting ) .
just wandering , how to watch videos and play games on TV from phone and ipad ?

correct me if i am wrong.

there are 2 ways of doing it.

1. by using AV /HDMMI converter ( will it work for Both ? phone and ipad ? )
2. wait till i get iOS 5 and buy Apple TV and do the same thing without any wire connection and without any AV/HDMI converter ..

Any ways i was planing to buy Apple TV. so i guess i should wait till iOS5 comes.

any comments on this ?

av/hdmi works for video

to mirror the device on the TV you need to be jailbroken, cant think of the tweak i think its TV out or something

where can you get a cheap cable, i'm assuming with a jailbroken Iphone you don't need the official cable from Apple.

yeah even non jailbroken the el cheapo cables look fine for video on my friends ipod touch
