My last macbook pro was one of the first gen intel macs. It had a core duo processor, not even a core 2 duo. I used to use it with an external monitor, but eventually it started to make it lag like crazy and I believe it toasted the GPU.
Now I'd like to use an external monitor again with my 17" arrandale MBP, but I'm worried that an extra monitor would just slow my machine down to a halt again. I mean, I can barely use Firefox with 50 tabs open without it slowing down.

first off 50 tabs is a lot
second I watch 1080p movies on my HD tv form my mac while playing wow/sc2 or both at the same time on the mbp - no lag
although i have to restart sc2 lots of times couse its bugged.

Do you have anything to cool your MBP? I have a similar setup, I'm pretty sure that this sort of abuse would cause my MBP to melt though the desk!

ummm...wut?

50 tabs? are you feeling ok?

Adding another monitor, will have negligable effect on the speed that firefox or any other app operates.
