How will iTunes react if I keep just Apps and Videos on an external HD?

Currently with videos, iTunes just "finds" them when I have my external HD attached. I currently have 9GB of iPhone Apps, and I really don't see the point of keeping them on my main HD.

Would iTunes "find" the folder and move new apps to the external HD if I just moved the folder? I want to keep my music on the HD. Just not the Apps.
