How would app store apps work with my existing apps?

I have iLife and iWork (bought 3 days ago for my newly purchased iMac, thank you, thank you). But with the app store coming along next week, how do my current apps take advantage of the new app store system? I love the thought of not having to install my apps and automatic updates to them just like on my iPhone and iPad. Any thoughts?
