Ok so I'm going to be buying the new updated 30GB iPod pretty soon and am wondering how I would be able to tell the difference between the old and the new from the outside of the box. Basically, if I buy at an Apple Store, I want to be sure its one of the new ones (the better battery life and brighter screen interest me). And, as much as I hate to say it, I cant trust the salespeople at the Apple Store. So is the box any different? If there's no other way to tell besides opening it up and checking out new features / seeing if it has the new headphones, I'll just buy it online. But I'd really like not to have to wait. ;)

the only thing I can think of is the new search feature that's not in the old 5G 30 gig-ers.

edit: sorry, just saw you were asking specifically about not having to open it up. that, I do not know. I guess, though, that if they sell you and old one, then you could always take it back and complain.

The new ones have Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the Pirates movies on the iPod screen on the box.
