How Would Kaby Lake R with same specs compare to Coffee?

The rumors about a new lower end Mac laptop with Kaby Lake R, from a CPU perspective, look really attractive. The specifications look almost identical to Coffee Lake when comparing CPUs at similar speeds. Other than GPU capability, it doesn't seem like there's much of a difference in performance when comparing i5s or i8s with similar clock speeds. What am I missing? Why would anyone pay so much more for a Macbook Pro if a lower end Mac had similar speeds?
