How's 8.1.2 on the iPhone 4?

I have a friend that still has an iPhone 4 and is on some version of iOS 6 still.

They have been thinking about upgrading to iOS 8 but I recommended against it from what I had heard of performance on these devices.

So I was wondering if any of the point updates had improved the situation on the iPhone 4 or is it not recommended?

IIRC iOS 8 will only install on the iPhone 4S and higher.

The iPhone 4 is "stuck" at iOS 7.

The IPHONE 4, supports only ios 7.1.2 which is pretty bad, I suggest you tell your friend to keep his iphone 4 on ios 6.
