Right now I use mac mini M1 with 1 HDMI monitor on the HDMI port, and another HDMI monitor via usb c-HDMI adapter. works fine no issues. I am upgrading to 16 inch M1 max and i want to use two monitors external while in clamshell mode when at my desk. I assume this is possible. but i am seeing some youtube videos with techtubers complaining they have external monitor issues in clamshell mode in Monterey and the new macbook pro/max. things like flickering, not waking up monitor when touching external keyboard when in clamshell mode, requiring to open lid or restart. that would really kill the vibe for me if that happened.
Anyone here have any issues with external monitors and clamshell mode? or is it smooth sailing?

also on the topic of external monitors, if possible i want to run TWO hdmi monitors into a hub along with all my peripherals, and just run one USB C cable to the macbook (along with magsafe) is this possible? if so what would be the best dock for this?

My 2018 mbp is connected to two 32" 4K Ultrafine displays via a caldigit dock and I haven't had any issues.

I am curious how the new machines perform since memory is unified. So far, I've heard positive results of how fast the displays turn on.
