I open and close the lid of my Gen 1 MB 10+ times a day, on top of the 'free play' that has been posted before, the hinge is getting very loose in general. In the above thread, someone claimed that Apple can do nothing in 'tightening' those hinges.

Anyone that owned/own both version of MBA, can you confirm it the hinge mechanism is identical (unchanged) in the new ones?

had both MBAs - hinge comparision

My first MBA (rev 1) had a generally stiff hinge, that was loose in a couple of areas, and sure enough it developed free play of about 10mm at the loose positions

This one I'm typing on now (rev 2) has an even action, but it feels looser than the old one (and the new MacBook that I had for a fortnight whilst waiting for this) - it still works really well though, with no "slack".

I feel better about it - I'll let you know if that changes. My old MacBook had the hinge changed and I'm not rough with it at all. My old PowerBooks NEVER had hinge problems.
