Do you also have brighter edges with a darker border around them?

It seems like the lighting on mine is not 100% consistent across the whole surface. ChatGPT says that this is normal for a display with this technology and it is due to XY technological reasons that I do not understand.

What's yours like? I'm using a solid background colour so it's perhaps easier to see than if you had a background picture.

Yes mine has bright edges on the left and right borders, and some horizontal lines across the screen that I only notice when scrolling on white backgrounds. These non uniformities are due to slight differences in the mini-LED backlight array. I actually prefer the Studio Display's non-mini LED backlight due to improved uniformity.

Okay, good to know. So you’re saying this is not damage, but just the way it is technically?

And yes, I do not have that on my Studio Display.

I think the discoloration might be getting worse over time, but the display is still in great shape for being 6 years old. I expect to get ~20 years of service from it.

But did you have this from the start? Because I bought mine used, I am wondering if it resulted from heavy usage or if it would have been like that even when new.

I also bought mine used (~2 years old) and it’s had the problem from the start. But it’s getting worse.

Okay, that sounds annoying. Do you work a lot with pictures? Me not so much, so I am wondering how much it would affect me. But at that price, things like that are unbelievable.

I only notice when scrolling text, not with pictures. I usually use the display near max brightness in an office with lots of sunlight during the day.

Edit: let me add that the backlight non-uniformity is worse at lower brightness levels.
