I know it's only been less than a week, but how is it holding up? It is the only 'dark' colour option for the aluminium series so would be interesting to see, how it holds up compared to the jet black iPhone 7s from yesteryear.

Hi guys, speaking of Jet Black Series 10, I am ready to purchase and it will be my first Apple Watch ever.
Newbie advice, have you ever considered screen protectors like film or glass? I would prefer to avoid clearly, but I wanted to understand if from your other experience in general with Apple Watch there is a risk of scratches over time.
I have also seen that there are cases, but no one wears them, so I hope they are not necessary. Thanks!

I always went without a screen protector or a case for my apple watch. Of course it can scratch a little over time. But that's life. Enjoy your new Jet-Black-Beauty!

The ionx glass will definitely scratch, but it does make a difference how you treat it. My wife couldn't care less about her watch (it's just a watch), and hers is pretty jacked up from daily use. The scratches don't affect the functionality at all though, and she says she doesn't even notice them. Me on the other hand, I definitely notice, and it makes me cringe a little :)

Mine, however, is treated pretty well and I am pretty careful to protect it at certain moments (walking next to brick walls, working on the yard with gloves on, etc). Mine looks way better than hers to be sure, but I've still managed to pick up one or two light scratches.

If that's going to bother you, I'd save a few extra pennies and get one of the new Titanium 10's or a refurb'd stainless steel on Amazon. Under daily use, the sapphire shouldn't scratch at all.

I'm working Oktoberfest weekend at my job. I'll be running around, photographing and I'll have my watch on. This'll be a true test for me and see how it'll do with scratches during Oktoberfest. Plus, it's going to be raining all weekend as well so that'll also be interesting to see how it'll hold up too! I'll have to post later once I regain my energy back from the insanity.

I've always had cases on my Apple watches. I get the light thin cases, and I don't think anyone would notice unless they looked closely. I once posted a picture here of a watch with a case on it, and at least one person looking at it didn't notice the case until I pointed it out.

I also usually used a screen protector, but one year I got a case that formed a bit of a ridge around the screen, and used that without any screen protector and the screen didn't get any scratches. This is the aluminum model, with the screen that's not as scratch-proof as steel/titanium models.

I don't think cases are necessary, but they do give me peace of mind, as I'm clumsy and bump into things a lot.

Do you have a link to the cases you use? Interested for my wife

I had the AW S4 Nike + in aluminum and it held up extremely well over the the last 5/6 years of every day wear and use. It had a couple of small scratched on the screen but the body was still in excellent condition.

The one thing I worried about with my Jet Black S10 was the potential of showing finger printing or smudges more and to my surprise, it doesn't really show anything... at all.

I've had sapphire on my S0, S2, S4, S7, and now Ultra 2. Zero scratches on the crystal or cracks. Worth the peace of mind.

First ding has appeared. I have absolutely no idea how that happened. I got that character +1 bonus point very quick!

Yeah, I lift weights, doing HIIT cardio and forest trial walks with it so it was kinda inevitable. But I have to say, that my 6 year old S4 Space Gray does not have scratch like this.

My first watch was a Ti Slate and unfortunately it couldn't be paired with my new phone and I exchanged it for a jet black aluminum as the Ti was not available for several weeks. The Ti watch got a small barely noticeable ding on the case the first week. I now have had the Jet Black with LTE for a week and so far no scratches. It also doesn't get as many smudges on the display as the Ti did. The sapphire crystal display on the Ti was more clear (sharp) than the Ion-X glass on the Jet Black however. I'm very happy with the Jet Black watch. It's noticeably lighter on the wrist.

Had mine since launch and it’s still immaculate. I’ve knocked it on a few things by accident as you do, but so far no issues. I’m not one to worry whether I get a scratch though and my series 5 was quite scratched after 5 years of use. You still had to look closely to see any damage and these watches are meant to be worn, not chucked in a drawer at the end of their life like a pristine investment piece.

I have a tiny little silver dot on the case of my AW10, where I banged it on a radiator. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm actually thankful, as my last watch (apple watch 6) got a massive scratch on the screen just after the return period finished. I'm trying to be a little more careful this time!

have a small ding on mine as well

good thing i get a new one every year

hopefully they bring back the midnight watch which never got a scratch on it!

never was gonna get a silver or rose gold so jet black was my only choice

Exchanged mine for slate titanium instead. Between the reports of jet black already getting chipped and scratched as well as the IonX glass that seems to be about as scratch resistant as butter, I didn't want to deal with the risk.

Plenty of people use IonX and manage to take care of it. Sure it's not as scratch resistant as the sapphire, but don't believe the hype. It's not going to scratch if you look at it the wrong way. If you take care of your stuff you'll likely be fine.
