Hi,
I've had the problem of, when capturing hdv from a sony v1 to fcp on a mac - it drops frames and splits up the footage - incessantly annoying when you don't know why. I was capturing to an external firewire800 drive and had the problems, so I've started to capture to the internal mac drive and I've had no dropped frames or split footage and it all looks and seems great. (I then copy the data to the external and re link.)
Also, when trying to transfer avchd files from a card or drive, i kept getting a little red exclamation mark next to the transferred footage saying it was no good, but of course no reason why. I searched a long time and the answer seems to be - take errant or all files out of the /library/quicktime folder. Take them all out and your footage transfers should work, it does for me and it's now dreamlike as it was taking 9 hours for every hour before and it now takes about an hour for an hour. You may need the files you've moved for other apps like windows movie player of flash so beware problems you will encounter with these. Keep the files you use in another location and then just put them back for other apps and remove them for final cut pro.
It has taken me months to figure this out after trawling every forum I could find and in the end it was something so simple - as I knew it bloody well would be, so here's hoping it helps you too...
