Howto: record audio build-in output osx

I want to record the audio that some application makes, on my previous systems i always had something like 'stereo mixer' for this... but even in soundbooth it seems inpossible to fetch directly from the build-in output device...

so: How do I record the audio that leaves my system in osx? Or how to configure osx to put the audio to a wav file (if that is more simple with core audio or so)

I don't know if you want a free solution or not, but I use WireTap Pro from Ambrosia Software.

well... it would be nice to have this... because wiretap indeed can do this, but for just 1 time using it this is to costly.

It should be quite standard i guess.... but seems hard to find.
