If you've been wondering what the big todo is about Asterisk and have wanted to experience it firsthand, but have been scared off by accounts of incredibly complicated config files, I hope I have the solution for you. I've written a HowTo for using Asterisk and an outgoing VoIP provider (in my example, I use VoIPjet) to replace SkypeOut functionality, at half the cost.

Please give me any feedback you might have. I've tried to be as comprehensive as possible so that you really have to know _nothing_ more than how to use nano or BBEdit in order to have Asterisk up and working for making calls anywhere in the world. However, I fear that I have been overly wordy, so don't hesitate to tell me that it works but readabilitywise it sucks.
And if you find it helpful, and you want to learn more, why not subscribe to the astmasters ListServ.
