I can get this printer at a really good deal but it seems it isn't officially Mac compatible. Has anyone been able to make it work with another driver? In particular, I'm planning on connecting it to a Windows XP Dell PC and then be able to print it on the network.

Re: 1018

It looks like it can be done, but it may not be too pretty. At least connecting it directly to a Mac...not sure if it'll work over a network connected to a PC.

Have a look at this thread for details.

Re: 1020

Have a look here.

I got an open source driver for the LaserJet 1000 in May, which worked a charm with that. I don't have the original URL, but maybe you should try something like this, and see what comes up.

Alternatively, there's not really much choice than to either (a) use it over your network from another, Windows based box, or with a "network print" adapter (either 10/100 or WiFi), or purchase a Mac compatible one.

I did it, but had two errors:

1. Common problem - when printing, the queue line for the print jobs wouldn't update and clear after a job had printed

2. i had to backup my computer and because you had to delete the packages and what not, it became another tedious process.

However HP makes two models similar that are compatible: the Laserjet 1012 and 1022

Anyone here done this personally?

Yes I have and it works Heres a recap for everyone to Install HP LaserJet 1020 on Mac OSX. You are actually installing the drivers for the HP 1022, but it works, HP buried the drivers as a 1022 not calling it 1020-Bastages!

1) Download; http://www.narc.ca/1601-LJ_1022_Series_OSX.dmg (Old version)
2) If you have anything for the HP 1020 in "/Library/Reciepts" delete it.
3) Delete anything for the HP 1020 in Printer in "Printer Setup Utility"
4) Add new printer in "Printer Setup Utility", select HP LaserJet 1020, driver should come up, click ADD

Then you should be able to print.. glad we finally got around this one.. and one big FU to HP.

FOLLOW EXACTLY! My HP 1020 works when plugged into my BMB, still can't get it to work with my Airport Express, anybody have any luck with that??:)

Printing to HP 1020 on a Windows Machine from a Mac

I have a MBP and struggled to find a way to print to my HP LaserJet 1020 printer attached to a Windows XP desktop. The HP 1020 is not a PostScript printer, so it requires software to do the 'rendering' for lack of a better word, and when printing over a home network, like I was trying to do, wouldn't work! So, I followed the instructions found on this amazingly helpful walkthrough, and it worked perfectly. I can now print any and everything from my mac over my network to my HP 1020. Hope this helps, and trust me, it works!
