Had a MBP from 2006 that I used the HP Officejet 6210 All-in-One Printer/scanner with. Scanned great. Nice, crisp scans.
Have a new MBP w Retina display. OSX 10.8.4. Have updated drivers, etc, but the scans come out grainy and almost distorted.
Thoughts??
Thx.

The problem with HP - JET anything is the ink cartridges, laser with toner much better deal down the long road.

Not knocking the HP they make good stuff, especially the Enterprise server line. Just saying that ink jet is a waste of good money.

I don't think that ink cartridges and toner have an effect on the quality of the scanner.

OP: Have you viewed the documents scanned on the old MBP with the new rMBP? Maybe the display is just too high-tech for the scanner's quality.

Otherwise, there's a DPI setting under "Details" which might need adjustment. For example, on my HP Photosmart Plus the preselected default is 300DPI while it is capable of up to 1,200DPI. Files get huge and it takes ages, though.

Toner doesn't come into play. The DPI may. I'll check that. Thx.

I checked and the default via the System Preferences/Scanner was 75 DPI. Upped it to 300 and it looks great.
Thx.
