Does anyone have a way to install an HP printer driver on Apple Silicon without using Rosetta?

What’s the printer model? What’s the concern with using Rosetta for printer drivers?

HP Laserjet 400. I don't have Rosetta installed on my laptop and do not want to install it just for the printer driver.

HPs latest driver was released this year.

But I doubt it’s complied for Apple Silicon. The alternative is not using HPs drivers and letting the print utility pull appropriate drivers.

I did try that, and the easy start application doesn't need Rosetta, but when it tries to install the drivers, it doesn't work.

Is there such a thing for Epson as well? Searched but couldn't figure

Very reluctant to install the whole Epson suite
The Apple generic PostScript driver should work with all printers that support PostScript. There’s also a PCL driver that works with most everything else in the laser printer world. Things get more interesting with non-laser printers.

Unfortunately, PostScript doesn't see the extra printer tray installed.
Phooy. I’ve heard tales of folks editing the PPD file to add or remove features, but this is not something I’ve attempted.

"I rather run a system that is Rosetta-free."

This is ridiculous.
Rosetta will run only when required.
When it's not needed, it's completely dormant.
It will hurt nothing else.

My advice:
If you're that concerned about Rosetta, buy A NEW PRINTER with new drivers that doesn't need Rosetta to install.
