hp x2031 with Macbook Pro

Hi guys, I have recently bought an additional monitor for my macbook pro. I wanted to use it in clamshell mode with a BookArc which I have also ordered. However I manage to get it working fine from turning on the monitor but if the monitor goes to sleep it will not wake using keyboard or mouse. I am connecting with a Neet mini display port to HDMI connection and my model is the 2010 to 2011 model with thunderbolt. My Macbook is still seeing the monitor when I look under the displays it just isnt waking on the HDMI connection. Is there a fix for this? Also is this specific to HP screens or does it affect all monitors?
