Finally got a macbook (pro new 13"), and tried to hook it up to my HP2475w monitor using the mini displayport to DVI adapter, and the monitor will not run above 1280 x 1024 or 1366 x 760? (cant remember exact setting).

Trying to run 1920 x 1200 and I just get horrendous flickering (in 3 bands, worst at bottom), snow or just full screen of noise.

Basically, completely unusable, and I bought this laptop to do photo work with the external monitor.

Seems not completely uncommon, for there to be issues with the minidisplayport to DVI on many monitors except apple. But has anyone managed to make this combo work?

I have read that mdp to VGA adapter may make this work, but what a backward step, particulalry as the monitor has DVI, HDMI, and displayport inputs.

BTW, monitor is fine with my IBM laptop running DVI to DVI, and fine running VGA with my windows desktop - it is not the monitor.

Thanks, but...

I've swapped the MDP - DVI for a MDP - VGA, and will try that out, and make sure the firmware updates the adapter.

I believe that is only a firmware update for the VGA adapter, and so wouldn't have made any difference to the problems I was having with the DVI adapter.
I would expect the best adapter would have been the digital one, not the analogue one. The Analogue one will be subject to some noise that the digital shouldn't be.

As I say seems like a step back, but if I can get it to work with the VGA adapter at least I've got a work around, but if not then the MBP is going back, and I'll be very sorry - as I love it apart from this - but this is what I bought it for.

Ade.
