HTML and Mac

I miss notepad from windows.

TextEdit screws everything up. I can't make a simple HTML document in it without it messing up the code not allowing me to make a .html extension etc etc etc.

Suffice to say I think that notepad is better than anything I have on my Mac

Is it saving it as rtf by default? If so, it won't let you save as HTML.

Go to the format menu and choose "make plain text". Also, go to the preferences and choose in the upper left, under New Document Attributes, "Plain Text" as opposed to "Rich Text". Then, you can save as HTML.

I use SubEthaEdit for writing html. It has syntax highlighting, web preview and more, and is free for non commerical use.

Oh my God. THANK YOU! TextEdit is a lot deeper than I thought. I should not have ever doubted Mac in the first place.

These programs that use highlighting are terribly convenient. I'll have to try this one out. Thanks for the link.

Have you ever used TextPad (on windows)? I'm curious if there is a mac equivalent. There are no macs on campus, and I used TextPad for JAVA, and its terribly nice. This app that you linked to appears to be a bit overly complex for my needs, what with all of the collaborative and networking features and whatnot. I'm a big advocate of K.I.S.S.

For plain text editing, you just can't beat BBEdit Lite.

I've never used TextPad, unfortunately the only place I use Windows (school) doesn't allow us to download any programs. It drives me mad when we have to use IE .

IMO SubEthaEdit it simple and powerful. Although it has the collaboration features, they don't add significant clutter to the interface when you're not using them, and it's almost as easy to use as other text editors such as TextEdit.
