Just bought this monitor and most posts suggest I should be running it scaled at looks like 2560x1707. However I find the text far too small even moving it very close to me and I’ve been getting headaches after only an hour of use, I can feel my eyes straining almost straight away. So I’ve turned it to Native and it automatically reduces it by 2 and the text is larger and a much better size for me than the scaled, I’ve not noticed any difference in the text sharpness either.

Issue is though I’m still getting headaches, although they are not as bad. About half the time I get a new screen I can suffer with headaches for the first few weeks so it may pass, I’m just wondering if there is something else I can try in the settings or another resolution or some font smoothing that might help.

Apart from the headaches the monitor is excellent, really like the 3:2 ratio, just need to get it setup in a way that works for me.

The MateView doesn’t use PWM to regulate brightness (it’s “flicker-free”) so PWM can’t be the reason.

However, when I upgraded from 24” to 27” I also suffered from headaches and nausea. Presumably I just needed to get used to the size because it stopped after a couple of days without me doing anything.

The “default” (200%) scaling produces the sharpest text on macOS. So that’s the “best” setting in this regard.

Yes I wondered if it was PWM so its good to know Amethyst1 it won't be that if it doesn't have it.

Im also upgrading from a 24" 16:10 non 4K monitor so my eyes might take some time to adjust

So In display settings in Mac OS for resolution I should just keep it at default for display. Im guessing the people who are using scaling are the ones who felt the native text was too big and they wanted it smaller?

In the Huawei's on screen control I've also been using eye comfort I'm guessing this is what I should be doing to help with headaches, I'm presuming it reduces blue light, I'm already running nightshift too In Mac OS 24hrs

Im also running it in native colour mode so not SRGB or DCI through the on screen control as I thought this would be best as it then gives you the option of adjusting the contrast and sharpness, I've got contrast at 40% and sharpness at 100%

Im just trying everything to try and help with these headaches, its hard to known what to change or just give it more time.

It’s also about getting more screen estate. I’m coming from a 24” that ran at 2560x1440 and the MateView is at 2560x1707 so I get 18.5% more vertical screen estate across a larger surface so things are bigger and easier to read.

An off-topic question: I had previously returned my 24 inch 2k type-c monitor because I did not find the image quality sufficient. I've been looking at LG 4K monitors these days. The Huawei Mateview also seems to be a pretty good option. Do you think it's a better option for mac than standard 27 inch 4k monitors?
