I'm on a ML system running the most current version of Safari. I don't know if what I'm encountering is specific to that browser. I think it's caused by whatever flash elements are used by nbcolympics.com on their streams. But even after closing all instances of any flash- just sitting at an empty tab with only the one window- Safari is chewing up >5gb of RAM. Anyone running into this?

Huge memory leaks in Safari

Quit Safari and go into Terminal and type "purge" and then hit enter. This will clear out the inactive RAM that safari probably has taken up after it quits.
Restart safari and see if the problem persists.
This happens especially when safari is running for long periods of time (at least in my experience) and it has been used for flash or other "intensive" purposes. Safari sometimes uses a ton of RAM and then doesn't let other apps use it after closing whatever was taking it up before. If I find that safari or any other app is using a lot of RAM I just quit, purge, restart and the problem normally is resolved.
