So I fell asleep with my macbook pro on the coffee table. I woke up this morning and wanted to edit a video. For some odd reason, my macbook wouldn't wake up. Puzzled, I held down the power button and tried booting it up. It booted up just as it normally would, but as soon as it gets to the login screen, the screen shuts off and it goes into sleep mode. HELP!!??!?!?

Are you certain it's going into sleep mode and not just turning off altogether? Is it plugged in or on battery power?

okay, what you don't seem to understand is that I can't access anything on my computer. As soon as it goes to the login screen, the screen goes blank and goes to sleep.

OK, did you follow the links he provided and try them already? These are there to assist with issues with which you are describing.

OKAY: update, It has turned on. I let it sit for a while and the login screen just came up. I"m going to try checking everything in disk utility and see what that turns up.

EDIT: I did the "verify permissions" or whatever, and A LOT OF **** is going down that list. After it finishes I'll try repairing permissions and see what that turns up with.
