I never was a wrestling fan, but his mark on society was undeniable - may he rest in peace
Just read that. Not watched wrestling for decades. It’s not really my thing, but sad none the less. Seems like everyday someone passes away from my youth.

I was never a wrestling fan but I knew who Hulk Hogan was. He was awesome. May he rest in peace.

The greatest pro wrestler of all-time. Main-event talent wrestler for three decades.

In the 80's, Vince McMahon created his empire on the back of Hogan as they took out the regional territories and created Wrestlemania.

In the 90's, he led WWE's competitor, WCW, in the Monday Night Wars where he led one of the generally-accepted greatest factions and storylines of all time with the nWo.

And in the 2000's, he came back to WWE where he once again won the WWE Championship, headlined several wrestlemanias, and wrapped up his career.

Very sad another legend of my childhood dies. RIP.

At the time Hogan was becoming popular in the mid to late 80s I was in my teens. I was never a wrestling fan, but the WWF was on in the background for me. It slotted in somewhere around Kung Fu Theater and it made for great drama. But in its success, it needed more and by the 90s was going over the top with that drama and I had other things to interest me.

I was a fan of Hogan's public persona in the WWF, but not a fan of his private self. Thing is, he was so over the top when acting as his public persona, that it was cool and laughable at the same time. But as a person…not so much.

You don't like HH, say so and leave it at that, don't need any extra edification/commentary.

So let's restart this off the right way. Despite HH's flaws and humanity on display all over the internet, here's a list of the philanthropic work he's done through his lifetime.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America:
American Diabetes Association Foundation:
Make-A-Wish Foundation:
50 Legs:
Connor's Cure:
A HERO Foundation:
The Grace Project:
Dreamseekers Foundation:
Muscular Dystrophy Association
Stand Up with the Hulk-Animal Cruelty/cock & dog fighting
Breast cancer awareness
Unity In the Community

A couple individual examples:

Jason Hefelein - a life long WWF and HH fan and dying from a rejected double lung transplant did not have long to live. HH went to hang out with him before his death, fulfilling a bucket list moment for Jason.
Paulie Fazio - a 10 year old life long fan, lost his WWF/E collection and house to hurricane Sandy. HH sent him a care package of Hulkamania memorabilia and called him telling him to be strong for his mom n dad and family.

This is not everything he has done over a lifetime but notable charities he's participated in over the years. We're talking about millions in total charitable donations and money generated for different charities, causes and individuals and 100s of Make-A-Wishes come true. HH with his flaws I'd wager still managed to do & give more for his community than anyone here when he was in a position to do so.

He was one of the rare 'rassler' equally adept at portraying a face or a heel.

Those were simpler times. Hogan had the on screen charisma to make us marks suspend belief enough to accept him drawing energy from the crowd. Going from half dead to an invincible butt kicking machine. We ate it up. Good times.
And in the 2000's, he came back to WWE where he once again won the WWE Championship, headlined several wrestlemanias, and wrapped up his career.
He should have retired from the ring after the WCW/WWF merger. While every other 'rassler' had an impressive looking finisher, the Hulkster still used his leg drop to finish off opponents. It's the only finisher I found more comical than the Rock's People's Elbow.
Having him manage a stable would have helped out the younger wrestler's. Like what they did with Ric Flair. Whoo!
