Hulu's updated and redesigned Live Guide is rolling out today on Apple TV, Roku devices, and the web, Hulu announced today.

The upcoming changes to the Live Guide were first announced in January, but took several months to launch.

Hulu live TV users can now see what's airing over the course of the next two weeks and can schedule recordings for upcoming tv shows, movies, and games in advance.

There's an option to add content to a "My Channels" list to make it easier to keep track of favorite channels and programs, with the My Channels option available from the Home interface and the Live Guide itself.

Hulu says it's easier to find recommended TV shows and movies from the Home interface, and it's easier to browse through content collections using categories like sports, news, movies, and kids.

Hulu earlier this week also began rolling out an updated version of its mobile app that's designed to make it easier to find content, but the mobile app update does not include the new Live Guide.

We’re cutting our cable in a few days and switching to an ISP without a data cap. Going to save us $1,600 a year. Still deciding if we need Hulu Live TV.

There is nothing that requires a full TV spectrum for me. I am sure this is the same for many others. They finally get web TV off the ground and now it’s moot. You can spend $40-$55 a month on multiple focused services giving you exactly what you want instead of the old scatter shot “airwaves” TV programming. Which is mostly crap now.

Does Hulu Live TV also provide access to regular Hulu (with or without ads) or is that a separate add-on on top?

Part of the live subscription includes basic Hulu but it’s baked into the price. I don’t remember the exact numbers but the building blocks are something like:
Basic Hulu $X
No Commercials $X
Live TV $XX
More Screens / More Recording $X
HBO / Showtime $X / $X

Hope that makes sense.

I have AT&T Watch TV, it is only $15 and it has live channels and on demand streaming. I found it to be a better deal than Hulu TV.

You may also want to check Spectrum Streaming, they have several package levels, from $14, $25 to $45. I think that is better because sometimes you just want the channels that you want and that’s it.

With Att watch I have 35 channels and they are more than I need.

Have Hulu with no-ads, and have enjoyed it for years. Wanted to try the Hulu Live; but the ONLY way to subscribe to HULU Live is to CANCEL my subscription, wait until Sept 12 for my current subscription to terminate; then RE-CREATE a subscription to Hulu Live, create a new profile and start fresh.

what kind of fresh hell is this? Why can't I simply add it to my existing account? This isn't rocket science, believe me, I know. That's what I do.

If cost is the issue, it's pretty hard to beat $20/month for 85 channels with Philo.
No sports, channels are pretty well assorted, but not in 4K. No Contract. Unlimited Cloud storage.

Recent cord cutter and Hulu Live subscriber - will try this after work. Looks good. The current UI on my TV is fine - but def not speedy; takes a lot longer to navigate through to find shows.

Now they need to address the big issue with not being able to start watching a DVR’d show (like a sporting event) from the start until it’s over.

It is separate. It is something like $45 for Live TV and $11 for Hulu with no ads. But then they discount something like $6 for having multiple services from them. Keep in mind that they will then nickel and dime by charging an extra $10 for an “enhanced dvr” that allows you a larger amount of recordings and the ability to fast forward through commercials. So... yeah. That got to $60 quick. Did I need to cancel Comcast? Hmm.

Thank for the info! That might be the service for me.

I have no interest on sports, and I don't care about 4K, I will probably only do so from 2022 on.

We use Hulu live as our only source for live tv and local channels. If you are coming from cable or satellite with a DVR, Id like to welcome you to the world of commercials while watching live tv. We had Directv with a dvr. We could record shows and fast forward through the commercials. Hulu has a dvr feature but good luck with fast forwarding.

FYI, when we signed up we already had Hulu streaming service without commercials and we added live TV. The price they gave us was $44.99 and then after the trial period they let us know that our plan was going to start showing commercials unless we upgraded again to an even more expensive plan that was not even listed when we initially upgraded. Pretty sneaky IMO.

The new guide is very nice, and this was a much-needed improvement. But it still takes way too many clicks/swipes to get there, unless you're already watching a live TV show. Also:

  • Unlike PlayStation Vue, you can't add the live TV part of Hulu to the Apple TV app. That means that if you click on a current sports event, for example, that app can't send you to the show on Hulu.
  • There should be a way to automatically have Hulu open in the last-used profile rather than asking you every single time.
  • The "Home" screen is unnecessary, unhelpful, and redundant.
  • The three-tiered navigation system is one tier too many, plus it's hard to tell where you are (a line *above* the option you're on -- who does that?!)
  • The picture/audio quality doesn't match cable/satellite
  • Hulu needs to add something like the quick contextual (long press) menu in PlayStation Vue, as well as something akin to that service's Multicast feature.
In short, this service currently is promising and frustrating in about equal measure.

We had basic Hulu, and upgraded to Live a month ago. It didn't require cancelling and creating a new subscription.

Not currently a Live TV subscriber with Hulu (only ad supported plan). But with the recent DVR issues that my wife and I have been experiencing with AT&T TV Now over the past week and their completely inadequate customer support, I'm seriously considering switching to Hulu w/ Live TV or YouTube TV.

BTW, I dig the layout. Not sure if the layout prior was bad or just needed a refresh.
