Hunter Douglas has finally brought Apple HomeKit support to its PowerView Motorization system, which is designed to control Hunter Douglas motorized window shades.

The PowerView Motorization Hub lets users control, time, and set their window shades to raise, lower, and tilt on an automatic schedule. Originally released in 2017, the system only supported Amazon and Google services out of the box, but the company said at the time that support for HomeKit would come later the same year. However it appears to have only just surfaced.

After applying the update, users with the Powerview Hub Gen 2 should be able to enjoy HomeKit integration and control their window shades and blinds via Siri voice commands. If the support works as it was originally promised, users should also be able to incorporate shade settings into HomeKit scenes for full-home automation.

(Thanks, Jeff!)

I just updated and after a couple of attempts I have my blinds in the home app, I had them before via home bridge but nice to have native support I had given up

It would be nice if the players just agreed to one standard. That way consumers don’t have to worry about support or future support. The companies can compete purely on the quality of their voice control. Plus all these devices could be open to local non-cloud alternatives.

Finally! As much as I love my Hunter Douglas PowerView Window Shade Motorization System, I've been hoping the Hunter Douglas PowerView Window Shade Motorization System would support HomeKit! It's always been tough to recommend the Hunter Douglas PowerView Window Shade Motorization System to friends due to the Hunter Douglas PowerView Window Shade Motorization System's previous lack of HomeKit support, but now I can recommend the Hunter Douglas PowerView Window Shade Motorization System to friends with confidence!

Would be nice, but then the standard drags everyone down to the same level. Two sides to the idea.

Always wanted to motorize our sun shades, but the cost is still just too prohibitive. Residential systems tend to be cheesy/flimsy and overpriced, and commercial-grade systems tend to be overcomplicated and waaaaay overpriced.

It is nice to see HomeKit support added to some of these products though. I hope enough people start buying them that they become commoditized and reasonably priced.

Some rep in 2017 tried to sell me this system saying it supported HomeKit. Glad I did my own research. Now maybe I will finally get those shades installed along the back of my house.

Anyone know how to get HomeKit to do things in response to time of sunset? I see up to one hour before and after, but nothing longer than that. Would be great to have the shades roll down two hours before sunset. Even better to have them roll down at a different time during certain times of year when the sun is at an angle such that it comes through the trees. We have a row of 8ft windows along the back of our house overlooking a forest so the lighting can get weird.

Just received the update, and in the connection process you have to enter the HomeKit code on the bottom of the hub. I looked but there’s no HomeKit code (but that’s maybe logical because it wasn’t a HomeKit compatible hub when it was installed a couple of months ago)

Any powerview users who have the same issue?

Check again the code is scribed into the plastic of the hub looks like xxx-xx-xxx. Make sure you have the gen2 hub

I’ve tried this multiple times with no luck. I have gen 2 hub which is readily discovered, just can’t add to HomeKit. Hmmm.

It did take 3 or 4 try’s to add to HomeKit, I had to do via the Powerview app not the home app
