If you live on the Atlantic or Gulf coasts, this time of year can be an uneasy one.

A five years ago, I created a mobile/smallscreen friendly Storm/Hurricane info site aimed at pocketpc users but built it so it would be usable on _any_ browser... the guidelines for the project were "simple, small, fast loading and pre-drilled"

Now that I am supporting two iOS devices, I can see that it could be valuable for you apple guys :)

The page at http://bevhoward.com/storm/ppcradL.htm
gives immediate access to all USA NWS doppler weather radar loops. There are also links to ten "regional" doppler composite images that make viewing large storm systems easier.

http://bevhoward.com/storm/ppcrad.htm
is identical but links to much smaller static images that reduces data consumption by a factor of 5-10.

A related issue is that my wife's 2gen touch did not support animated gifs (used at these sites) but the upgrade to iOS4.x appears to have added that option... if the above radar gifs don't animate, use the second url for better speed and reduced data consumption that will be lost to lack of animation.

There are also a number of "drilled down" hurricane info links on the above pages as well as the (linked) page at http://bevhoward.com/storm/Storm.htm

These direct links bypass the "home pages" of the sites and greatly increase the probability of getting to important information as storms approach because the higher pages often overload and become inaccessible when things get critical.

Finally, know that this is a personal project... no adverts, no cookies, no junk, no tracking... because with storms, speed and accessibility can be life and death matters.

Feedback appreciated,
Beverly Howard
