I am about to buy a new MacBook Pro (the 2.2 GHz 15 incher) and have been torn between the 7200 RPM 500 GB HDD and the 128 GB SSD option. As I need to use Boot Camp for Visual Studio and like to game, I believe 128 GB wouldn't be enough, but the bigger SSDs are out of my price range.
I was about to give up and resign myself to live with the slow HDD, when I found out about hybrid disks like the Seagate Momentus XT.
Is the performance increase versus Aple's 7200 RPM HDD option worth the price and hassle of tracking the part down and upgrading myself? Would I be voiding the warranty if opened the MBP to swap the HDD?

That's an old thread. As I have posted elsewhere, I have got one of these drives with the latest firmware and it works without any problems. A good value upgrade and you do not void your warranty by changing the HDD as it is a user replaceable part.
