Following a successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, accessory maker Hyper today announced that its HyperDrive Duo Pro hub is now available to purchase for use with 2016 and newer MacBook Pro models and 2018 and newer MacBook Air models.

The form-fitting hub features a 7-in-2 design, meaning that it connects to both Thunderbolt ports on one side of a compatible MacBook and provides access to seven connectivity options, including an HDMI port (4K @ 60Hz), a Gigabit Ethernet port, a USB-C port with Thunderbolt 4 support and up to 100W Power Delivery, a USB-C port (5 Gbps), a USB-A port (5 Gbps), a microSD card slot (UHS-I), and a 3.5mm combo audio jack.

The HyperDrive Duo Pro is available in space gray or silver colors and can be ordered for $99.99 on Hyper's website. The hub comes with an extended USB-C adapter in the box that allows it to be used with other USB-C devices like the iPad Pro, Chromebooks, and more.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer cable-based hubs that uses only a single TB port. The fit is also generally much more secure and I can tuck away the hub away from the computer.

I like how my MacBook Pro 2015 has a built-in hub. I bet it goes on the vintage list and doesn't get OS updates in the fall. I'll probably just get the updated MacBook Air and some simple hub solution rather than a 7 port mega hub.

Why would I want this? Pictured is the m1 pro. It already has HDMI and Ethernet and headphone jacks, why would I want two of these ports? Lol
All I really want is a USB only hub, ideally with 3 USB-C (since it blocks one) and 2 USB-A ports.

This hub offers headphones jack because it blocks one of them.

Ever since one of these USB Hubs with PD fried my MBP, I've become very skeptical towards them. Now I only power through Apple's official hub, using third-party as regular hubs (without power).

Nearly all hub products insist on having tons of different ports when at least some of them are really not desired. If my computer already has a 3.5mm audio jack, putting one on a hub, one like this that hard mates, or one that's attached by cable, is NOT desirable. I've bought and returned or put on the shelf a few different Thunderbolt hubs. The one I have found useful is simply 1 in, 3 out Thunderbolt. No audio jacks, no Ethernet, no USB-A. My guess is the chipsets being used have all these ports, and so the dock makers figure, "why not hook them all up?"

So you can plug in two monitors using HDMI cables only?

I'm assuming it can be used in Macbooks that don't have ethernet ports?

So this adds microSD, USB-A, and Ethernet for $100? Nearly all microSDs I've bought include an adapter to standard SD size for free, and you can get adapters for the other two ports for far less than $100.

Edit: I spaced which side this is on, so I guess you get a second HDMI port too.

FWIW, I bought one of these during the kickstarter. It comes with a short USB-C cable so you can either use it in less-attached mode OR with an iPad Pro or other USB-C device. So far, I like it. It's solidly attached when in use, and not difficult to detach. My only wish is that the HDMI was bidirectional so I'd not have to drag my Camlink 4K along as well when recording video. However, I expect that was probably left out for cost reasons...

I'm using it on a 2018 MBP, the four-TB-only model, so it adds a bunch of functionality.

As a European customer, I’m not buying from hyper again. They request customers to send defective items to the US at their own expense for servicing products under warranty…

If you'd bother to read the first paragraph, it's intended for those older MBP and MBA models with only USB-C/TB3 ports.

In any case, it's $100 for a port replicator that can be found in many forms on marketplaces for less than $50 - this one adds nothing special.

One way to break your Mac. Never use products that connect to both ports, seen too many that caused board failures.

The M1 Pro does not have Ethernet. The headphone jack is there because the hub covers the built in headphone jack.

So…if you bothered to look at the image, it’s the newest m1 pro which has all those ports….

Speak for yourself. I love having only one cable to plug/unplug when I dock my MBP, and I'm sure others do to. It's much neater.
